Theatre of the Sea--Islamorada, Florida

Theater of the Sea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Regarding Gulfariums claim to being "the oldest of it's kind operating today" and built in 1955, wouldn't Theater of the Sea being built in 1946 ace them?

1958 I believe this is the same trainer in the in the below thread with the "Hammer of Thor" target.

1955

You would think by now, given the apparent intelligence of these non-human animals, that a trainer would have become redundant. I should think it would be a matter of sitting down with Flipper and Salty, going over some minor detail's then handing them the script. They in turn could run it by the Dolphins Without Trainers Union to see if there were any objections and in short order they ought to be up and running for the new show season. Upside is mackerel, while not as cheap as volunteer's, is a lot cheaper then dollar's by the hour. You could run a park on a shoestring, if you could only get those hamboneing dolphins to play along.

Year unknown. Jim Alexander, I have never seen such concentration in the delivery of the target to a non-human denizen of the deep in the rarely seen "breach 0 death," in my life. Just chilling how he has willed this fish to come to daddy!!!!! :)

1957 Note my dream car, the 1956 Bel Aire convertible in the foreground. Do you know what that is worth today, speaking of redundant?

1955

Gulfarium project was started in 1954 by Brandy Siebenaler. It was opened on August 15, 1955. Some how this attraction managed to dodge a bullet and is still operating, although it is currently closed until May 2012 according to their publicist, for "improvements to enhance our guest's experience." I wonder if that is human guest's or non-human animal guest's whom will be enhanced? People have often said the easiest job in the world is a pro golfer or a Bass Pro fisherman. I think the easiest job in the world is that of a publicist. Imagine getting paid to be full of shit!!!!!

When you consider the ease of maintaining a place like this within pumping distance of salt water or ease in acquiring food stuffs for the captive's in the early day, appreciate the difficulty an wonder of a land locked facility like Marineland Niagara Falls who has to manufacture all the salt water used in the marine mammal tanks.

Performances by trained porpoise are held continuously under the Golden Dome, the world's largest geodesic, free span structure, of its kind. Preceding this, is a breath-taking show of high jumping porpoise in the 1,240,000 gallon main tank in the 31/2 storied building, which is the main entrance to the Aquatarium, on St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.

From Greg May, Florida Backroads:

www.florida-backroads-travel.com/remembering- the-aquatari... to learn about this classic marine attraction from the 60's and 70's. The AQUATARIUM boasted the world's largest circular marine tank - 100 feet in diameter, 25 feet deep containing 1,244,000 gallons of seawater. As you approached the viewing windows encircling the tank, a wave of disappointment came over you for the water clarity was almost non-existant due to poor filtration. The Aquatarium was purchased by Frank Canova in 1969 for $4 million. He sold the property in 1980 for $40 million!
